Art and works on paper

Paintings, prints and works on paper, catalogued with whatever the back of the frame has to say: labels, stamps and old inscriptions are often worth more than the signature on the front.

What comes up

Australian and European paintings, watercolours and drawings, etchings, lithographs and screenprints, botanical and topographical plates, and vintage photography.

Attribution

Signed and documented works are catalogued as such. Where a work is unsigned or the attribution rests on style alone, the description says ‘attributed to’ or ‘manner of’ and means it.

Selling art

Send a photograph of the front, the back and the signature. The back is the one most people forget and the one that usually decides the estimate.
