Jewellery auctions

Jewellery is the largest part of almost every sale: Georgian and Victorian pieces, Art Deco and mid-century, signed modern work, and the unsigned gold that people actually wear. Every lot is examined by a gemmologist on staff before it is catalogued.

What comes up

Rings, brooches, pendants, earrings, bangles and chains in 9, 14 and 18 carat gold and platinum. Diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and rubies, Australian opal, cameos, pearls and jade. Costume and designer jewellery where the name carries it.

How it is described

Metals are tested, not assumed. Stones are measured and weights given where the setting allows it. Where a piece has been altered, repaired or re-shanked, the catalogue says so. A buyer who finds that out after the sale does not come back.

Selling jewellery

Valuations are free, at the rooms or by photograph, and we are happy to look at a single ring or a whole jewellery box. Bring any certificates, receipts or boxes: provenance and original packaging both move the price.
